Aocheng is a residential master plan located in Changchun, China. StudioUp acted as design consultants for the exterior facades of selected towers of the master plan (Tower 6 and 11 in Phase I; and Tower 1 and 7 in Phase II) , which set the guiding standard for the design of subsequent towers in the development. The design entails the strategic manipulation of the setbacks, crown heights and string courses to establish clear hierarchy and balance in the Neoclassical facades, and at the same time improve the interior layouts of the units. Details, such as window sizing, spacing, groupings were carefully specified to reinforce strong reading of the exterior. Special attentions were given in the  design of mini-balconies to obscure exterior AC units, which have been an overlooked problem in contemporary Chinese residential design. Furthermore, the design minimizes the visual impact of the exterior fire safety corridor, which is required for all mid-rise residential buildings in the region.
