VELO-CITY

HARMONIZING PULSES OF THE SUBURBAN SYMPHONY
NAME: VELO-CITY
TYPE:  TRANSPORTATION CENTER
LOCATION:  ST LOUIS, USA
PROJECT DATE: 2013
STATUS:  CONCEPT

With the future extension of the MetroSouth Line and BRT connection, the multimodal Shrewsbury station is to be expanded to become a new transit center, entailing a symphony of uses is situated between modes of transportation to motivate a restful, productive and meaningful experience for commuters in transit.

At the convergence of multiple velocities, the intervention celebrates and manifests within itself the perception of velocities on the site. This manifestation operates on a duality of scales: the overall gesture establishes a close dialogue with the shifting landscape perceived from the train over the site, while the form of internal spaces responds closely to the undulating perception of the transiting commuters. The project is not only a programmatic link between the various transportation functions, but it is also a bridge that synthesizes the two “perceptual pulses” of the site.
